Windows 8, Officially Released

Microsoft has recently launched Windows 8, the latest version of its operating system, a version it hopes to be modern enough to keep existing users and draw new ones to Windows world. Steven Sinofsky, president of Windows and Windows Live, started the event in New York City by saying that Microsoft is celebrating the global availability of Windows 8.

Windows 8 might be new and attractive, but still Windows 7, its little brother managed to sell more than 670 million licenses. Windows 8 uses Windows 7 as its foundation, so naturally there are high expectations. According to Steven Sinofsky, the new operating system has undergone more than 1,240,000,000 hours of testing, which is a record for a software that was about to be released. Why Microsoft was so precautious? Probably, because lately Windows 7 and later versions were subject to harsh criticism, concerning their security.

Although the launch of Windows 8 was a balanced event, there were some moments, that made us think whether Microsoft isn't praising too much as Apple does. For instance, Steven Sinofsky referenced the days when we were using Windows 95 as the days when we were basically living in caves. It was obvious that Windows got improved, but to use this memory to emphasize the idea is quite strange, if not embarrassing. One more thing, if Microsoft managed to gather more than 1, 000 pre-orders for the new operating system, this doesn't really mean that we have entered a new era of computing. For a Google user, who probably updated to Chrome, the answer is simple: Windows doesn't include half of the apps, that you can find on Play Store.

Essentially, Windows 8 is a radical remake of the well-known system. That familiar start screen was replaced by a tile system that's similar to what we've seen on iPhones. It's a change that makes the operating system friendlier to touch technology. Another big change: Microsoft is introducing an applications store, so similar as graphics to Apple's App Store.

Windows 8 adds touch navigation to the operating system, but will still work with the keyboard and mouse. Every version of the operating system will come with a how-to on how to navigate the changes. On the other hands, Windows RT, Microsoft’s tablet OS, doesn't run Windows 7 applications, but apps that will be downloaded from the new Windows store, such as Netflix, Hulu or Xbox Music.

Microsoft executives, Mike Angiulo and Julie Larson-Green, offered a demonstration of Windows 8 on older devices, as well as on new gadgets. The main idea is that the new operating system runs significantly faster than its predecessor on older devices, one more reason to take advantage of Microsoft's promotions for upgrading. According to Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, presenting the basics of the Windows 8 ecosystem, the new creation is simply magical: with Windows 8, seeing, touching, clicking is as natural as your hand move, since this is the world of Windows 8, the era of innovations in technology.
